Bengaluru: Attempting to give serious colour to the Govindaraju diary episode, the BJP on Saturday urged the CBI to  investigate the hawala angle in the money trail and also any kickbacks received in the proposed steel flyover project in the city.

In a letter to the CBI director, Bengaluru Central MP, P.C. Mohan alleged the diary mentioned senior Congress leaders like party treasurer, Motilal Vora and other coded names like RG office and SG office and requested him to investigate it.

Arguing the CBI had five valid grounds for investigation, he said the first of them was the payment of Rs 65 crore allegedly received as an advance by middlemen close to people in the corridors of power, the second, the kickbacks received for the steel flyover project that was likely to cost Rs 2374 crore as against the original estimate of Rs 800 crore.

The third was payments allegedly made during the Bihar elections through hawala channels  regularly used by beneficieries in New Delhi, and fourth was payment of Rs 49.50 crore allegedly received for the BBMP elections. The  fifth were payments allegedly made to the AICC, which Mr Mohan claimed could have reached Delhi through hawala channels.

“Given the huge corruption involved and losses to the Central exchequer, I request you   to register a case against Govindaraju and investigate the matter in detail,” he said.
