Tirupati: Chittoor district collector P.S. Pradyumna on Monday said that stringent action will be taken on the admins of social media, if they were found publishing fake news in connection with the upcoming elections.
Addressing mediapersons in Chittoor on Monday, the collector asked them to refrain from publishing paid news, in support to the candidates of various political parties, ahead of the general elections. “A dedicated cell would be constituted to check fake news being published on social media,” he maintained.
Further, the collector appealed to the public not to believe in rumours over deletion of names from the voter lists. He said that only the Election Commission of India would be able to add or delete the names in the electoral list. Verification of newly added voters and objections is in progress.and objections raised were being carried and it will be completed soon.
Meanwhile, during a review meeting held with HODs of various departments on ‘Mission 60 days’ at district collectorate, Mr. P.S. Pradyumna directed the concerned officials to complete the tasks, which were assigned to various departments under Mission 60 days, before the given stipulated time.
