Hyderabad: Patient's family damages hospital, doctor files case
The baby's family members claimed that the hospital management had overcharged them, asking Rs 2 lakh for the operation.
Hyderabad: A doctor from the Safe Children Hospital lodged a complaint with the Malakpet police on Mon-day stating that the family members of a patient had abused him and da-maged hospital property.
Police said the hospital’s consultant paediatric surgeon Dr G.M. Irfan, 41, had lodged the complaint at about noon stating that the attendants of Abu Hurera, a 45-day-old baby, had abused him and his colleague Dr Syed Ershad Mustafa.
He said in the complaint that the relatives of the patient had broken the door glass and slapped security guard Ramchander, entered the counselling room and had broken a computer monitor.
Dr Irfan said the baby was admitted on Febru-ary 19 and he had called the attendants for counselling. “The case was of biliary atresia with choledochal cyst, which was operated on February 23 after thorough counseling after the family was told of the risks,” the doctor said. The condition refers to the blockage of bile ducts in the liver.
The baby’s family members claimed that the hospital management had overcharged them, asking Rs 2 lakh for the operation. “We paid Rs 1.5 lakh and they performed the operation but the condition of the child has worsened. They doctors asked us to vacate and behaved in a rude manner when we questioned them,” said the baby’s mother Ishrat Begum. The baby is still in hospital but in stable conditon.
A case was booked following the complaint under Section 4 of the Medicare Service Persons and Medicare Service Institutions (protection from violence and damage to property) Act, 2008 and IPC Sections 143 (punishment for unlawful assembly), 504 (insult), 323 (punishment for causing hurt) r/w 34 (common intent) and an investigation was launched.
