TN student on education trip dies in mishap near Jaipur
Their tour began on February 11 and was to end on March 3.
THANJAVUR: A fourth year student of Government Fine Arts college at Kumbakonam near here, who was on an educational tour, slipped from train, fell down and died, near Jaipur in Rajasthan on February 23.
According to the college sources, Vigneshkumar (22) son of Murugan, a resident of Silamalai west street in Theni district, was studying at the Fine arts college. He went along with 39 other students for educational tour to north India. Senior lecturer V.Karunanidhi led the students.
Their tour began on February 11 and was to end on March 3. On February 23 night they left by train after visiting Agra to Jaipur.
The students were in different compartments as they could not get tickets in single compartment. When the team reached Jaipur next day morning they could not find Vigneshkumar and complained to the railway police.
The police found the body of the student on railway track and kept it in Government hospital at a place called Dausa. According to the police, the student might have fallen down from train and died in the accident.
Karunanidhi and other students went to Dausa and identified the body as that of Vigneshkumar. Information was given to the college. On Monday, a condolence meeting was held at the college.
The department of Culture is taking steps to bring the body of the student, which is now kept at the mortuary of the hospital to their native village.
