Thundershowers to give relief from heat in Telangana
Winds from Bay of Bengal may bring mercury down.
Hyderabad: Heat-stricken citizens can expect some relief over the next 48 hours, with the Indian Meteorological Department predicting thunderstorm activity.
Thunderstorm activity includes moderate rain, thunder and hailstorms at isolated places. IMD assistant meteorologist N. Narasimha Rao said winds from the Bay of Bengal were blowing over the state which could bring down the maximum temperature by up to 2º Celsius.
Most districts in the state saw the maximum temperature 41ºC on Friday; the city recorded 39ºC on Friday, and the mercury is expected to stay at that level on Saturday. The night temperature will be stable at about 26ºC degrees, the IMD said.
Mr Rao said northerwesterly winds, which were responsible for the rising temperatures in the last few days, were giving way to moisture-laden southerly winds. This was leading to the formation of cumulonimbus clouds, which will bring down temperatures.
The weather forecast for the state shows dry weather on Saturday, moderate rain in isolated places on Sunday and Monday before the dry weather returns. The IMD said that this is just a seasonal phenomenon. There will be three days of moderate rains from March 27 in coastal AP but there will be no relief for Rayalaseema.
