Hyderabad: The mosquito menace in Hyderabad is resisting eradication, particularly since the GHMC cannot control it around Hussainsagar Lake, which is in the heart of the city and metres from the GHMC headquarters. GHMC chief entomologist V. Venkatesh said the mosquitoes will disappear in 15 days owing to the heat, and the corporation has begun de-weeding tanks of hyacinth, with 18 tanks already free of hyacinth.
He said the corporation has also started a special drive along Musi from Langer Houz to High Court where 220 entomology staff have been clearing the edges of the banks and spraying herbicides, which will dry the leaves in 48 hours. Venkatesh said such operation have been conducted in 10 tanks across the city. However, Hussain Sagar Lake was not included.
He also said the corporation has intensified fogging operations with 140 potable fogging mac-hines. He also said the corporation has geared up for the monsoon.
