CPM need not worry on BJP votes: K Surendran

KOCHI: BJP state general secretary and Pathanamthitta candidate K. Surendran has asked the CPM not to worry about the BJP votes shifting to the Congress-led UDF in the state.

"Instead of worrying about BJP votes, the CPM should explain what has happened to its party votes," he told reporters here on Thursday. He was commenting on the CPM allegation that the BJP had transferred its votes to the UDF in the majority of the seats in the state.      

Stating that the CPM was heading for a rout, the BJP leader said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan was solely responsible for such a situation. Mr Surendran was here to attend a meeting of the BJP and RSS leaders to take stock of the post-poll situation. He also expressed his confidence about victory in Pathanamthitta and said the party had secured votes from the minority communities in the region.

Mr Kummanam Rajasekharan, NDA candidate in Thiruvananthapuram, who was also here to attend the meeting, said that he was sure of victory. The BJP and the NDA are banking mainly on Thiruvanathapuram and Pathanamthitta seats for opening an account in the state. The BJP supporters claim that the sharp increase in the voter turnout in the two constituencies was a sign of the support for the party candidates.
