GWMC’s ‘smart’ trumpet is rubbish, reality different
A similar situation is seen at Deendayalnagar colony where the residents do not even have drains in the streets.
Warangal: Even as the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) claims to be providing the best sanitation facilities to the resident of Warangal under the Smart City mission, the ground reality is different.
Colonies especially in the slum areas face a number of sanitation issues. Residents say the GWMC has been neglecting them.
In the Labour Colony in Kazipet, residents complained that the GWMC Swachh autos do not come to collect garbage daily. The residents have to throw their trash daily in an open plot at the end of the street.
In addition, no measures to control breeding of mosquito were taken in the colony. Some streets do not have drainage and the streets that have drains are not cleaned by the sanitation workers.
Whenever the drain gets clogged, residents have to call a private individual to get it cleaned.“We are suffering because of the mosquito menace in our locality.
“GWMC officials did not take up fogging. When I asked the person who does the fogging, why he did not enter our street?, he replied rudely.
“The sanitation workers only work on the main roads and neglect the inner colonies,” said M. Upendramma an elderly resident of the colony.
Another resident B. Sridevi said, "Residents sweep the roads in front of their homes and when they are unable to bear the stench from the drains clean them. The local MLA approached us during elections promised to solve all our issues if we vote for him. But so far he has not even stepped into the colony.”
