Polavaram site inspected following NGT directives
Later, the Collector directed the officials to come up with an action plan on proper maintenance of Polavaram dump yard.
Rajahmundry: A four member team of experts inspected Polavaram dump based on directions from the National Green Tribunal and took stock of implementation of its earlier directions to avoid environmental pollution and inconvenience to residents at Polavaram in West Godavari on Thursday.
The team members included scientist from Union ministry of environment and forests Dr C. Palpandi from Chennai, Central Pollution Control Board additional director Dr M. Madhusudhan from Bengaluru and others. They were accompanied by West Godavari Collector Praveen Kumar when they inspected the muck dump at Polavaram project site and interacted with the local residents.
Speaking on the occasion, the district collector Praveen Kumar said that they were implementing all directions issued by the NGT to avoid environmental pollution and other troubles to the common people due to the muck at Polavaram and added that they were taking alternate measures to avoid trouble to the local residents.
Local residents informed the officials that they were not against the execution of Polavaram project and expressed concern over how their health was getting affected due to the muck.
