Vijayawada: Four cases of malaria reported this year

Vijayawada: Special medical services will be provided to check the spread of malaria in the district, said krishna district collector A.Md. Imtiaz.
He held a conference with the officials of various departments, including panchayat raj, revenue, medical and health, roads and buildings, DWMA, RWS and municipal commissioners marking World Malaria Day on Thursday and asked them to put in all efforts needed to control mosquito breeding.
He directed the officers to organise awareness programmes on spread of malaria across the district. He also suggested that rallies be taken out at various places in the district to create awareness about steps to check malaria among the public. He suggested that the officers check leakage of drinking water pipelines.
He also asked the MPDOs, panchayat secretaries, medical and health officials to take steps to control spread of diseases.
The collector said that four cases of malaria were reported from across the state so far this year against the 27 cases registered last year. The measures taken by the government are yielding result, he said.
The district collector directed the medical officers to collect samples of blood of patients who had been suffering from malaria since long and get them tested.

He appealed to the public to clear drums and cans in which they store water every week and fill them with fresh water after cleaning and also to ensure that waste water does not get stagnated as it aids in breeding of mosquitoes.
