BMTC becomes intelligent' at last

The ITS project includes vehicle tracking, electronic ticketing and passenger information systems to bring in operational efficiency.

Bengaluru: After months of pilot trials, finally the most-ambitious project of BMTC, the Intelligent Transport System (ITS), the first of its kind in the country in city transport services, was launched on Wednesday by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at BMTC Central Office  in the presence of Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy.

The ITS project includes vehicle tracking, electronic ticketing and passenger information systems to bring in operational efficiency.

Mr Reddy said, “6,400 buses are installed with vehicle tracking units which will allow real time tracking and monitoring of buses, collection of operational data and generation of MIS reports, two-way voice communication between the bus and the control centre and electronic ticketing machines. In fact, 10,000 ETMS are deployed across all depots and come with GPRS communication. The EMV comes with certified-supports contact-less smartcard.”
