Kozhikode: Calicut University is developing an indigenous software to issue degree certificates for the students within weeks after the completion of the course.

The software will enable the students to apply for the provisional certificates and degree certificates via online and will help the University to issue certificates soon after the verification and the Senate approval.

The software is being developed by the Calicut University Computer Centre (CUCC), Calicut University, the state's largest university with over 3.5 lakh students studying in various streams including distant education, is facing delay in issuing certificates due to the huge number of applicants and shortage of manpower.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Calicut University Vice-chancellor Dr K Mohammed Basheer said that the varsity has already started the work for complying with UGC regulations.

“We have a system already developed which helps the students to apply online from the admission process till the issuing of mark list and application for provisional certificate.

However for the original degree certificate hard copy, they have to apply separately. Now with the new software which is on developing stage, we are planning to link the both processes together which will minimize the time consumption for receiving degree certificate,” he said.

The UGC has cracked the whip recently ordering all state-run universities to issue degree/convocation certificates to students within six months of completion of the course. The body has also warned of punitive action if the order is not followed
