Vijaysai files nomination from YSRC for RS seat in Andhra Pradesh
Vijaysai is currently the general secretary of YSRC and a co-accused in Jaganmohan Reddy's alleged disproportionate assets case.
Vijayawada: V Vijaysai Reddy on Thursday filed his nomination as YSR Congress candidate for a Rajya Sabha seat in Andhra Pradesh.
Vijaysai, the family auditor of late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy's family, is currently the general secretary of YSRC and a co-accused in YS Jaganmohan Reddy's alleged disproportionate assets case.
He filed four sets of nomination papers to the returning officer and Legislature Secretary (in-charge) Satyanarayana Rao.
Vijaysai's candidature was proposed by MLAs Rajanna Dora, U Kalpana, Kodali Sri Venkateswara Rao and MLC Ummareddy Venkateswarlu.
The YSRC is left with 50 MLAs in the 176-member AP Assembly after 17 of its members defected to the ruling TDP. The lone opposition party can win one seat out of the four vacancies.
Election, if required, will be held on June 11. The nomination process closes on May 31. Earlier, Jagan, who held a meeting with his party MPs and MLAs this morning, formally announced the candidature of Vijaysai for the Rajya Sabha seat.
"Sai Reddy is a man of integrity and always stood for the truth. Hence, he has been named as an accused in the cases foisted against me," Jagan said.
"I am proposing his candidature (for Rajya Sabha) to send a signal that those with loyalty and credibility will be rewarded," the YSRC president said.
He alleged that Telugu Desam Party chief N Chandrababu Naidu had been "purchasing" YSRC legislators and subsequently ditching them.
"Chandrababu is trying to buy human relations with money," Jagan lashed out.
Vijaysai said his association with YSR family spanned three generations and he would remain ever loyal to it. He thanked Jagan for having chosen him for the Rajya Sabha seat.
