Hyderabad: With the death of five spotted deer reported so far this year in the University of Hyderabad campus, university student and wildlife photographer Ravi Jillapalli has alleged it is the result of deforestation.

“As trees are being cleared, the deer are coming out in the open and falling prey to dogs and poachers.

Last year we lost 44 deer and the cutting down of trees is continuing,” Mr Jillapalli said.

The vegetation on the UoH campus is overseen by the forest department.

“We have presented a representation against cutting any more trees. There is already a road so there is no need for a new road which will cost Rs 2 crore,” said Students Union general secretary Suman Damera.

“Cutting trees for development or to plant newer varieties is unnecessary and the lack of logic in it can be recognised by any nature lover,” says a student at UoH.
