Galloping Joy: Lawrence school students enthrall spectators

Ooty: The budding equestrian talents of the famed Lawrence School at Lovedale near here mesmerized spectators with their horse-riding skills at the equestrian display titled “Galloping Joy” held at the school premises on Friday in connection with the 160th Founder's Day celebrations.
In the games such as flag salute, fun games, free hand jumping, tent pegging, hanky picking, gymnastics on horseback, yoga and also a few other events scheduled for the show, the students exhibited their skills with a measure of ease and comfort that showcased how well they had been trained in equestrian sports.
Mr.Abdul Farid, staff co-ordinator of the equestrian wing of the school said that his wards have been showing keen interest in learning these skills. Coaching is up to international standards to help students vie for honours at national and international level equestrian competitions.
“Constant practice and interest are needed to master equestrian skills. This sport helps one keep physical fitness besides developing good concentration and agility. Regular practice will teach one how to make the horse respond to the command, besides helping to shed fear on being on the saddle on a moving horse,” a student rider noted.
