Chennai: The Madras high court has directed the Pachaiyappa’s Trust Board not to proceed further in filling the post of principals in four colleges, functioning under the trust.

Justice V.Bhavani Subbaroyan before whom the petition filed by K. S. Sridhar and G. Karunamoorthi came up for hearing on Thursday directed the trust board not to proceed further till May 30, pursuant to their circular dated April 20, 2018.

According to one of the petitioners, working in one of the colleges run by the trust, the trust was running six colleges in Chennai, Kancheepuram and Cuddalore. The trust board by a circular dated April 20 called for applications to fill vacancies arising for the post of principal in four colleges among the six colleges. The UGC Regulations 2010 and guidelines framed by the UGC were not followed by the board while issuing the present impugned circular.

The circular was issued only on the basis of regulations of the year 2000 instead of 2010.  For the past 5 years, the board has not made proper appointments in accordance with law or following the regulations.

There were so many malpractices and mala fides in the previous appointments of assistant professors and lecturers which have been under challenge before the high court, he pointed out.
