Ooty: The day-long heavy trains on Friday dampened the tourist spirits with the Nilgiris gearing up for the last leg of summer related shows this weekend.

While the heavy rains on Thursday evening that continued well into the night  changed the face of the hills in the summer, the near day-long rains on Friday played spoilsport with the sightseeing trips of the large array of summer tourists who have flocked to the hills for a summer sojourn.

The rains which began around Friday noon continued, almost non-stop, across the Ooty hills till the evening.  Heavy rains were reported too in Coonoor, Kotagiri, Kundah and Gudalur areas in the Nilgiris.

The downpour in Ooty town limits saw storm water gushing down the slopes and inundating low-lying areas for a while. Stagnation of water in many roads in the pouring rains forced pedestrians as well as vehicles to wade through pools of water.

Meanwhile, Sims's Park at Coonoor near here is gearing up for the two-day annual fruit show that is slated to commence on Saturday. As the two-day tea and tourism festival is planned in Ooty from Saturday, its fate hinges on the weather Gods.
