Coimbatore: SFI bicycle rally for upgrading school infra

The seven-day rally that began on Saturday will culminate next Friday.

Coimbatore: Students' Federation of India (SFI), students wing of the CPI(M), organised a bicycle rally here on Saturday demanding to upgrade Government schools with better infrastructure across the state besides urging parents to enroll their children in Government schools.

The rally was flagged-off from the Periyar statue near the new Siddhapudur signal here by Indian scientist Dr. Mylswamy Annadurai better known as 'The Moon Man'.

The seven-day rally that began on Saturday will culminate next Friday. From the textile city, participants will reach Tiruppur and cycle through Erode, Namakkal, Karur before calling off the rally at Tiruchy.

Speaking to the media after flagging-off the rally he said, "parents must not hesitate to enroll their children in government schools. The quality of education offered at the government schools is improving and hence we ought to encourage children to study in Tamil medium schools." Dinesh Raja, district president of SFI was among those taking part in the rally.
