Tirupati: Thunderstorm wreaks havoc, 1 dies

The victim was a farmer. He and his friend took shelter under a tree during rain and Thimmappa, 62, was killed by a lightning

Tirupati: The thunderstorm that lashed different parts of Kuppam mandal in Chittoor district on Saturday evening damaged crops in large areas. At the same time, thunderbolt killed a farmer and two cows.  

According to the locals, the farmer who lost his life after being struck by lightning was identified as Thimmappa, 62, hailing from Gudlanayanapalli village in Kuppam mandal.

He and his friend, Manohar were struck by lightning when they took shelter under a tree during heavy rain on Saturday evening.  

Manohar is undergoing treatment in Kuppam government hospital and his condition is said to serious.

Two cattle belonging to  Thimmappa were also killed after being struck by lightning.

The thunderstorm caused extensive crop loss in various villages under Kuppam mandal.

Horticulture crops like mango, tomato and vegetables being grown in hundreds of acres were damaged in nearly eight villages.
