VIJAYAWADA: Parking problem is glaring at NTR complex after the development of new shops.

The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has constructed an additional floor on NTR complex at Governorpet keeping in view of the demand for shops in that area. The state government has also announced that the extra floor constructed will be developed as hardware cluster to facilitate budding entrepreneurs with opportunities.

With an eye on extra revenue the VMC also has completed the construction of the additional floor at a faster pace. The complex is already having more than 150 shops, most of them offering various services related to mobile phones and electronic home appliances. Space between the NTR complex and AMC complex is the only place available for two-wheeler parking and has been facing congestion problems already.

As the NTR complex and AMC complex have become the destination for Vijayawada denizens to buy, repair or for servicing their electronic appliances, many people come here everyday for different purposes. Even small-time vendors within the city and from other places in Krishna district buy their goods at wholesale prices at NTR complex.

The space available in the underground of NTR complex is being utilised for four-wheeler parking, which is getting filled up and there is no space left if 106 new shops come into operation. The incoming traffic to the NTR complex is likely to get doubled when the hardware cluster becomes operational. The VMC has not made any alternative arrangements yet for parking additional vehicles.
Estate officer of the VMC C.H. Krishna Murthy said that the underground parking available has to be utilised for the new shops as well. “As the area is already congested and there is no place left, we do not have any alternative for additional parking facility,” he said. “As smart parking system is being developed in the city, we may find a solution in the near future,” he added.
