Aid to families of scribes who die in harness hiked
As per the announcement, the family of a deceased scribe with an experience of five years will now get an assistance of Rs 75,000.
Chennai: Replying to debate on the demand for grants for his department in the State Assembly, state Information and broadcasting minister Kadambur C. Raju on Monday listed out several developmental projects that would be undertaken this year, including the Amma Memorial at Marina beach.
He said that the memorial for late Chief Minister Jayalalithaa would be built at any cost, regardless of opposition, at a cost of Rs 50.80 crore.
At the same time, her residence, Veda Nilayam in Poes Garden would be converted into a museum at a cost of '32 crore and the land acquisition for the same will be undertaken by the district collector soon.
Minister Kadambur Raju told the Assembly that the sum was being hiked from a minimum of Rs 50,000 to Rs 75,000, while the maximum amount would be Rs 3 lakh from the existing '2 lakh.
As per the announcement, the family of a deceased scribe with an experience of five years will now get an assistance of Rs 75,000. The assistance will be Rs 3 lakh for the family of a deceased scribe with 20 years of experience, he said.
Raju also announced that Valluvar Kottam, one of the popular landmarks in Chennai, would be renovated, without affecting its heritage value.
Apart from announcing a memorial pillar for musical maestro Nallappaswami at Vilathikulam in Thoothukudi at a cost of '25 lakhs, he also announced a Bharath Mata memorial and library at Papparappatti in Dharmapuri at a cost of '1.50 crore to realise the dream of Subramaniya Siva, a freedom fighter.
