RAICHUR: The district administration has made elaborate arrangements for Wednesday's 'Grama Vastavya (village stay) programme of Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy at Karegudda village in Manvi taluk which is about 75 km from the district headquarters.
Besides erecting a big pandal measuring 200 x 300 ft with a seating capacity of 10,000 people where the Chief Minister will hold his Janata Darshan programme, another smaller pandal has been erected in the adjoining land where food will be served to people attending the programme. Although the exact figures about the amount spent on the main pandal and the smaller one are not available, going by the amount estimated to have been spent at Chandriki in Gurmitkal when the CM stayed last week, it would be anywhere between Rs 35-50 lakh.
According to official sources about 25 acres of land is being used for the programme which was earlier covered with thorny bushes. The administration had deployed nearly half a dozen JCBs and road rollers for over a fortnight for clearing and levelling the land. “It would have cost several lakhs to level and get the land ready,” the sources added.
A portion of this plot will be used for parking of vehicles expected to arrive on Wednesday. Separate arrangements have been made for serving food to officers and other dignitaries including the media at the local Matha. Besides laying a tar road for a length of about three km to the village from the main road, roads have been laid from the village entrance to the Government Primary School where Mr Kumaraswamy will be staying for the night. The authorities have also got the huge water tank situated adjacent to the school building painted afresh.
The village school building has received a fresh coat of brown paint. A posh bath-cum-toilet has been built next to the schoolroom (named Kaveri) where the CM will be resting (Earlier no names were given to the classrooms. Now the rooms are named after rivers such as Bhima, Krishna, Tungabhadra etc).
