Hyderabad: The Gachibowli-Miyapur road next to Road Transport Office in Kothaguda is now turning into an embarrassment for authorities. In the past five years the road has been relaid three times with tar, cement and tar again, to be finally now laid with paver blocks. Post monsoons the road has had a major water logging issue for several years now. The problem stems from the fact that the RTO office and adjoining colonies lie downstream bringing water from upstream areas like Raghuvendra and clogging it. The commuters have often been held up in the traffic for hours due to the water logged roads.

In 2013-14, after the excessive damage on the BT road, the locals approached the R&B department and submitted an appeal to lay concrete roads. But this road was re-laid with tar, allege locals. “The five-km stretch has major traffic issue because of this particular spot which has been mismanaged by the GHMC. Why do they layer the BT roads if every year the rain washes it off?” asks Mr Ramanjeet Singh, a resident of Miyapur who has been working on this road issue for the last 5 years.

The GHMC officials though deny the allegation and say this is the first time they are investing on the road. “GHMC took over these areas last year and this is the first time we are spending on it. It was previously the R&B department which looked after the road works in the area,” said deputy engineer Sreenivas. The department is presently spending '30 lakh on storm water drains and '19 lakh on the paver block road work in the hope that this would solve the issue once and for all.
