Chaudhary Ajit Singh retires, Jayant to lead RLD

Lucknow: With Rashtriya Lok Dal president Chaudhary Ajit Singh announcing his retirement from electoral politics, his son and former MP Jayant Chaudhary is all set to take over the reins of the party.
Mr Ajit Singh, at a meeting in Baghpat on Tuesday, had said that he was now 80 years old and time had come for him to hang up his boots.
“I will not be contesting elections now,” Mr Ajit Singh said.
Sources close to him said on Wednesday that though Mr Singh was quitting electoral politics, he would remain active otherwise.
“Jayant Chaudhary will formally take over as president soon but Chaudhary Ajit Singh will remain a patron and a mentor for all of us,” said a party leader.
“Jyant is going through the grind in his own way and only the future can tell how much space he creates for himself,” Mr Ajit Singh said.
