GHMC tightens building norms
For buildings up to five floors or 18 metres in height, the plan and safety certificate can be obtained from certified engineers.
Hyderabad: The GHMC standing committee which met on Thursday has made it mandatory for builders to obtain building plans and structural stability certificates from civil engineers who have completed post graduation.
For buildings up to five floors or 18 metres in height, the plan and safety certificate can be obtained from certified engineers. This move has been taken up considering the safety issue.
In respect of buildings above l8 metres in height, the licensed structural engineer would certify and submit the plans and structural drawings, designs and analysis.
The engineer would require an MTech or ME from a recognised university with specialization in structural engineering, two years of experience in a reputed practicing structural engineer firm and should have designed a minimum of three multi-storey buildings approved by the authority.
For buildings up to 18 metres, the licensed engineer can certify and submit the proposed project drawing as per existing rules, regulations, bye laws, designs and analysis of such buildings. This engineer should have been registered as a licenced structural engineer with BTech or BE from a recognised university, have 10 years of experience and should have designed a minimum of 10 high-rise buildings which have been constructed and completed.
The standing committee approved the proposals placed by the town planning department and they will be sent to the government for final approval.
