COVID: Mysuru man gives wrong number to officials, call goes to Deputy Commissioner
District officials are trying to nail down the man who gave them the wrong number
Mysuru: The administration in Covid-struck city of Mysuru went into a tizzy when they called a mobile phone number given by a COVID-19 patient and it was answered by deputy commissioner Abhiram Shannkar.
Recovering after doing a double take, they realised that the COVID-19 patient had pulled a fast one on them by giving wrong phone number and it just turned out to be that of the top administrator of the district.
Deputy Commissioner Abhiram Shankar told Deccan Chronicle that he is quite safe from Covid 19 and that the district officials are trying to nail down the man who gave them the wrong number.
According to Abhiram Shankar, so far at least 30 Covid-19 positive persons or their primary contacts have given wrong details just like in this case.
Not in the mood for any such games, authorities in Mysuru district are now telling their Covid field staff to collect the Aadhar number and other address proof too when they take take samples for Covid 19 tests.
Mysuru's nerves are edge due to a resurgence of the virus in recent weeks.
On Saturday night, a 55-year-old employee of JK tyres who was among scores of positives at the factory, died of the illness. Another 54-year-old employee of JK tyres, who too had tested positive for Covid 19, ended life on Friday.
So far 201 employees at three different plants of JK Tyres at Metgalli in Mysuru have tested positive for Covid 19. The company has tied up with two private hospitals in Mysuru for treatmment of the patients.
D K Lingaraju, joint director of the District Industries Centre here, said, "There are 3500 employees in JK Tyres. All those who have shown symptoms have been subjected to rapid antigen testing, and all the reports have arrived."
So far 107 deaths and 2575 positives have been reported in Mysuru district.
