Kargil Vijay Diwas: Leaders pay tributes to fallen soldiers
New Delhi: On the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday paid tributes to soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice for India's victory over Pakistan in the 1999 Kargil war. Kargil Vijay Diwas brings to the fore the bravery of India's unparalleled warriors who will always remain a source of inspiration to the people of the country, the prime minister said in a tweet in Hindi.
"Jai Hind," Modi said.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visited the Kargil War Memorial here and paid tributes to soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the 1999 war. Singh laid a wreath at the memorial. He also visited the tombstones near the memorial placed in memory of the fallen soldiers.
The minister will interact with Army officers and jawans before returning to New Delhi.
The Indian Army had launched a fierce counterassault to push back Pakistani forces that had stealthily occupied important heights in Ladakh in 1999.
Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed to mark India's victory over Pakistan.
Brave mothers raise brave son
On the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas, Col Joy Dasgupta, one of Hyderabad’s Kargil Bravehearts, decorated with Sena Medal, visited the war site at Kargil with his octogenarian mother.
Brave mothers raise brave son and its such a treat to see the son making the mother so proud. When the mother of COLONEL JOY DASGUPTA, 18 GRENADIERS, SENA MEDAL visits her son's karmabhoomi that was once yudhbhoomi too, its indeed a very emotional moment. @khushal1954 @adgpi pic.twitter.com/n8IP9gC9Ju
