Hyderabad twin blast: Security around Cherlapally prison tight

Hyderabad: Security around the Cherlapally central prison has been beefed up following the announcement of the judgment in the Hyderabad twin blast case to be pronounced on Monday. A total of 42 persons were killed in the twin blast reported at Gokul chat bhandar in Koti and Lumbini Park on August 25, 2007. 

The hearing which earlier took place at the Nampally court was later shifted to Cherlapally prison where a court was set up following security apprehensions. 

The case was investigated by the counter intelligence cell of the Telangana state police that declared seven persons as accused in the case. 

Three charge sheets were filed by the CI Cell investigators against Aneeq Shafique Sayeed, Mohammed Akbar Ismail Choudhari, Riyaz Bhatkal (absconding), Iqbal Bhatkal (absconding), Farooq Sharf-uddin (absconding), Mohammed Sadiq Sheik and Amir Rasool Khan (absconding). 

On August 25, 2007, the IM activists had allegedly planted improvised explosives devices (IED) at Lumbini park, which went off when the visitors were witnessing a laser show. 

At the same time, another IED exploded at the crowded Gokul Chat Bhandar in Koti. The bomb was concealed in a bag and left on an ice-cream machine by one of the accused, suspected to be Riyaz Bhatkal.

The third IED, which was planted on the foot-over-bridge (FoB) at Dilsukhnagar, was defused by the police. 

The Rachakonda police are making elaborate security arrangements and imposing restrictions on the roads leading to the Cherlapally Central Prison on Monday. Armed police teams are being deployed around the Prison as a security measure. The intelligence department has asked the police to increase security around the city too as some groups might try to create problem by dividing it on communal lines.
