OOTY: The golden jubilee reunion of the 1967 batch students of the famed Lawrence School at Lovedale near here was held on Monday. Saying that he had returned to his alma mater exactly after five decades, noted journalist and columnist Anand Sahay said that barring a few new buildings, all other things were the same in the school. "The uniform has changed with the school taking to the CBSE stream now. There are some changes in the dining hall. But the legacy of Lawrence school which came into being here about 160 years ago during British rule, continues,” he noted. He said that he used to play hockey in school as goalkeeper and shared some tips with budding hockey talents in the school.
Ramesh Venkateswaran has donned the multiple roles of student, headmaster and parent in Lawrence school. He said that he was headmaster of the school during 2005-06 and was the lone alumnus and lone Tamil to have done so.
"Lawrence school is the perfect example of the residential school concept imparting a complete education which shapes a student, helps him/her develop a mindset for a balanced view of life and inculcates in him/her the important trait of respecting others. It is helpful in personality development, discipline and character building and also in developing a civic sense. Of the 65 students of the 1967 batch, 24 turned up,” he said.
