Chennai: As many as 20 underprivileged kids from Virudhunagar district experienced their first-ever flight on Wednesday morning. A SpiceJet aircraft was specially arranged to fly the students to the city airport from Madurai.
Twenty government school students from a small town Sivakasi in Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu were sent on board the special flight on the initiative of two local NGO’s in the town.
Dressed in their school uniforms, the kids boarded from Madurai domestic airport in the early hours of Wednesday and landed at Chennai airport at around 9.20 a.m.
A NGO representative said “The programme aims to fulfil the dream of flying of less privileged children for the very first time by inviting them on-board and treating them to a once in a lifetime flying experience. Creating these special moments became even more fulfilling when we saw these kids getting thrilled over an aircraft taking off and landing at the airport”.
One of the students said, “This is the most memorable moment in my life. I never thought it would fly in an aircraft”. The children were taken on a sightseeing trip in the city and they flew back to Madurai at around 6.40 p.m. on Wednesday after their thrilling day.
