KT Rama Rao ask HMDA to fund projects

Hyderabad: The Municipal Administration and Urban Development minister KT Rama Rao asked the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) to fund all infrastructure projects which were put on hold due to a financial crisis. The municipal authority will now fund Rs 1,000 crore major projects Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP), nala widening and others.

This apart, Mr Rao also instructed HMDA to construct the longest elevated corridors which would connect the city with neighbouring districts. He asked the National Highways Authority of India to hand over the construction of two skyways which connects Jubilee Bus Station with Thumkunta (21 kms) and Paradise with Komapally (12 kms).  The project was delayed due the land acquisition which requires at least 100 acres of defence lands.

According to placed sources, the MA&UD minister has asked the HMDA to fund the projects which were put on hold due to the financial crisis. The SRDP alone requires Rs 200 crore immediately towards the compensation of properties and land. This apart, the projects requires another Rs 50 crore to clear pending bills and chalk out long term plans to fund the flagship project. Sources said Mr Rao had asked HMDA to fund the projects as a part of a stop-gap measure. He also asked HMDA to construct two of the longest skyways  which connects Jubilee Bus Station with Thumkunta  and Paradise with Komapally.

The estimated cost to execute both the projects was `3,000 crore and the structure part alone requires about `2,000 crore.
