Vellore: Five including mother arrested for selling a child

After receiving an advance of Rs 65,000, Sathya and Geetha handed over the child to the couple

Vellore: Five persons, including the mother and a relative of a child, were arrested on charge of child trafficking in Vaniyambadi on Wednesday. Based on a complaint by the father of the child, Vaniyambadi Taluk Police rescued the child after arresting them.

According to the police, Sathiya, after separating from her husband, married an auto rickshaw driver Murugan. They were blessed with a boy - Adhitya, (1). Murugan was undergoing treatment for TB in Dharmapuri hospital for a few months.

With the treatment of her husband in hospital, Sathiya was facing difficulties in meeting their regular expenditure. Her aunt Geetha conveyed the matter to a broker named Kavitha in the area. Kavitha told Geetha that Ahamed and Shakeela, a couple in Jai Nagar, Bengaluru were looking for a male child and
they would buy the child for Rs 1lakh.

After receiving an advance of Rs 65,000, Sathya and Geetha handed over the child to the couple.

On returning home from hospital, Murugan found that his son was missing and Sathya was giving evasive replies.

He lodged a complaint with Vaniyambadi Taluk Police. After conducting a preliminary probe, Inspector Mangaiyarkarasi found that the child had bene sold to Ahamed and Shakeela.

A team led by Mangaiyarkarasi rushed to Bengaluru and rescued Adhitya from the couple. The cops arrested Sathya, Geetha, Kavitha Ahamed and Shakeela and remanded them to judicial custody.
