AP Assembly passes resolution in support of women's reservation
Vijayawada: The AP Assembly unanimously passed a resolution in support of women's reservation after a short debate on women empowerment on Monday.
Minister for women and child welfare, Ushasree Charan, said that before the bill was passed in Parliament, Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy had provided 50 per cent reservation for women in the state, three years in advance. “The YSRC government initiated measures for women empowerment under the leadership of the chief minister and he supports women in the YSRC party also,” she said.
In the light of the passage of the historic women’s reservation bill in Parliament, MLAs in AP Assembly held a special discussion on the aid and opportunities being provided to women by the state government.
Minister Ushasree said former chief minister Chandrababu had robbed money in the name of youth development and also cheated the youth through the skill development initiative of the TD government. She recalled that Naidu, in an inhuman act, damaged other milk dairies to benefit his family’s Heritage.
“Under the leadership of CM Jagan Mohan Reddy, we are spending ten times more than the previous governments for women empowerment,” she claimed.
Tourism minister, R.K. Roja said, “I take pride in extending support to the women’s reservation bill brought by the Centre. Our party supports the bill. CM Jagan Mohan Reddy has spoken in support of the bill. After the passage of the bill, AP assembly will get as many as 58 women MLAs.”
“Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy has accorded highest priority to women in all welfare schemes and policies taken up by the YSRC government over the last four years. Even though the Centre passed the women’s reservation bill to provide 33 per cent reservation to women now, women in Andhra Pradesh can proudly exclaim that they have already been enjoying 50 per cent reservation in the state," she said.
Through various welfare schemes, the CM has transferred Rs 2.53 lakh crore in the last four years to women beneficiaries in the state, she said.
“The mini manifesto of TD-Bhavishyatu Ku Guarantee is a cloned copy of YSRC's welfare programmes and policies. Babu himself is unsure of TD's future, how will he provide a surety and guarantee to the state,” she asked.
MLA Nagulapalli Dhanalakshmi said CM Jagan Mohan Reddy has given many opportunities to women politically and many schemes were being implemented in the state for women.
MLA K. Sridevi said CM Jagan Mohan Reddy is helping women in every way including realising the dream of the poor to own a house. “Many schemes have been brought for women under which measures are being taken to protect women through Disha app and Women Police.”
Other MLAs also hailed the Jagan Mohan Reddy government’s support to women and the Assembly unanimously passed the resolution in support of women’s reservation bill.
