Karnataka HC confirms death to Murugesh for killing 5
According to the police, Murugesh, who was one among the labourers, had come in search of work.
Bengaluru: The HC on Wednesday confirmed death to Murugesh, who hails from Tamil Nadu, for hacking five people, including two women and an eight-year-old girl, to death. All the five victims, who were farm labourers, were killed at a sugarcane field in Harale village near Kollegal town in Chamarajanagar district in 2015. The lower court had sentenced him to death.
According to the police, Murugesh, who was one among the labourers, had come in search of work. A rift with the other labour community led to the murders, the investigation revealed. Eyewitnesses and recovery of weapons used for the murder from the accused eventually helped prosecution prove its case.
HDK seeks relaxation of bail terms
JD(S) state president H.D. Kumaraswamy has approached the HC, seeking relaxation in bail condition in Janthakal mining case. The court, while granting him bail, had imposed several conditions, including that he appear before the investigating officer once every 15 days till the final report is submitted in the case or till six months (whichever is earlier).
He has sought relaxation in the condition to appear before the investigating officer citing his health conditions. When the plea came up before the high court on Wednesday, the judge asked the advocate for the petitioner to approach the bench which granted him the bail. While the judge who granted bail is functioning at Kalburgi bench, the court asked the Registrar General to facilitate video-conferencing for the advocate to seek relief before the judge.
HC allows Anil Lad to fly to China
HC on Wednesday allowed Congress MLA Anil Lad to fly to China for business purposes. He had sought relaxation in bail condition imposed by the CBI court that he shall not leave the country in a case related to illegal export of illicit iron ore from Belekeri port. The High Court directed him to appear before the CBI court after returning from China.
PIL over Vajramahotsava adjourned
HC on Wednesday adjourned the hearing of the PIL questioning the state government’s decision to spend Rs 10 crore from the public exchequer towards the celebration of Vidhana Soudha diamond jubilee event. The court sought to know from the petitioner, who is an advocate, about the law which prevents governments from spending public money for such events.
