Andhra Pradesh: Additional LED bulbs at subsidy to SC/ST families

Vijayawada: The state government has decided to give two additional LED bulbs to SC/ST families at highly subsidised price of Rs 10 per bulb, as against the present market price of Rs 200 to Rs 300 per bulb.
This decision was taken by the energy conservation mission. The power utilities have commenced distribution of additional two LED bulbs to the SC& ST BPL domestic consumers and around 24 lakhs LED bulbs will be distributed across the state under this special scheme for SC and ST families.
The supply of quality and reliable power to the SC and ST consumers, even to the remote tribal people helps in social and economic empowerment, apart from education, according to energy secretary Ajay Jain. Disclosing these details during a review meeting with the adviser (Energy) K. Rangnatham, JMD (Finance, Comml., IPC, HRD & IT) Dinesh Paruchuri, CMD-APSPDCL H.Y. Dora, CMD-APEPDCL M.M. Nayak, the energy secretary has underscored the need for quick implementation of the scheme and directed the utilities to take all measures to make AP an incandescent-free state.
Mr Nayak informed Mr Ajay Jain that about 10.21 lakh bulbs will be distributed to the 3.38 lakh SC consumers and 1.73 lakh ST consumers in APEPDCL limits at the rate of two bulbs per each SC/ST BPL families by meeting the expenditure from the funds of SC sub-plan for an amount of Rs 6.72 crore in respect of SC BPL consumers and through the funds of Tribal sub-plan for an amount of Rs 3.44 crore in respect of ST BPL consumers. He further elaborated that for the uplift of SC/ ST women, EPDCL has taken up distribution of two more additional 9W LED bulbs in East Godavari district through the district administration, said State Energy Conservation Mission CEO A.
