Telangana: Reimbursement row could upset first semester exams

Hyderabad: The first semester exams of under-graduation students are in trouble. Managements of private degree and PG colleges in the state have decided not to allow their colleges to be used as examination centers and have submitted a representation saying the same to the state government. Gowri Satish, the joint secretary of the Telangana private degree and PG college managements association said they have taken this step as a mark of protest due to Telangana not releasing the fee reimbursement dues since 2014 amounting to close to Rs 1,545 crore. While first semester under-graduation exams of Osmania University are slated to start on December 7, it is December 6 for Kakatiya University. There are close to 4,000 private degree and PG colleges across Telangana state which act as exam centers.

Earlier in October as well, the private college managements had protested over the matter and had not allowed a few supplementary exams to be conducted at their colleges. Mr Satish said that the government had then promised to release Rs 600 crore by end of October of which only around Rs 258 crore was released.
