Hyderabad: The L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Ltd on Saturday announced fares for the Hyderabad Metro, which would be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 28. You can buy a smart card for Rs 200 with an initial top-up of Rs 100. There will be a Rs 100 security deposit for the smart card. A discount of five per cent will be given to smart card users. The smart cards were launched on Saturday morning by minister of municipal administration and urban development K. T. Rama Rao.

The card will be available at Metro stations and later through dealers and also online. Later it will also be linked to other transports such as TSRTC buses, MMTS and electric vehicles or private cabs that Metro passengers use. It will also be linked to fuelling stations and banking facilities later. Corporate employees expected to use the Metro Rail have been introduced to the card. A senior officer said, “We have already had an introduction session in companies so that the employees who want to use the cards can easily avail of the same.”

Tokens will also be issued for one-time travel. Sign boards will guide commuters inside the stations and security guards and L&T personnel will be at hand to help people understand the mode of travel. The concourse level can be used as a cross-over from one place to another. There are steps and elevators. Once on the electronic elevator, announcements are heard advising travellers to hold on to the railings for support.

There are washrooms at the station level; facilities will also be developed at the street level. Minister K.T. Rama Rao said, “The retail section, parking, and all other facilities will be developed over a period of time according to the response of the people. State buses will be used as feeder services so that people can come to the stations. For any new system to be successful the co-operation of the people who use it will be required, hence it is important to keep it neat and clean.”
