Bengaluru: Thanks to the efforts of Bengaluru University and Faurecia Clean Mobility Bengaluru, the Jnanabharathi campus will have full-fledged dense micro-forest in a 3,000 sqft plot in just one year.

Over 700 indigenous and varied species of plants have already been planted. In exactly 180 days, these plants are expected to grow10 feet taller. In one year, the spot will have a mini-dense forest.

The novel and popular Japanese Miyawaki model is being adopted. As many as 200 employees of Faurecia Automotive Company's R&D centre and manufacturing unit did the preparation work for about 70 hours and 10 days under the leadership of Director Dhana Radhakrishna.

The land has been made into four blocks, and dug for about 4 feet. Manure mixed with soil is poured into the pit. When the planting is done, the roots of all plants will become one unit. Because they are planted close, the plants will compete to get the sunlight and grow faster. There will be no weeds on the ground as they don’t get the sunlight and the root as a structure will hold water for longer periods.

The company is promoting the employees to plan their weekends here to enjoy the forest, which will reduce the ambient temperature by about 4 to 5 degrees Celsius.

One of the employees said, “I don't belong to Bengaluru. But as a citizen of the country, it's my duty to contribute to Mother Nature.”
