NIRMAL: The Telangana government is excluding from the housing list the applicants who had already got the facility under other housing schemes in the past or already have housing facility/property.

They are being declared as ineligible for the 2BHK facility now being offered by the state government.

The selected beneficiaries are likely to enter into their allotted 2BHK facility by performing a housewarming ceremony on the occasion of the Sankranti festival.

The completed 2BHK units will be handed over to the selected beneficiaries after final touches are done to the houses before Sankranti, officials said.

District-level officials allotted the house numbers and blocks to these units after selecting the beneficiaries through draw of lots in front of them. Nirmal collector, through lottery, allocated 1,248 2bhk houses constructed at Bangalpet and Nagunaipet to the eligible beneficiaries in Nirmal town on Friday.

The state government is seeding the information furnished in the applications with the data of previous beneficiaries of housing schemes in the previous governments, who are having building properties. This is done with a database available with the Telangana State Tech Services, Hyderabad.

Some applicants staged protests against this procedure.

According to official sources, as many as 6,600 people applied for the 2BHK in Nirmal district. Among them, 4,000 2BHKs were completed. Among them, 2000 2BHKs are in the Nirmal municipality.

Collector Musharaf  Farooqui said they cross-checked the applicant's information with the database of TSTS and eliminated 400 names from the total applicants. “It was found that they have already got houses under other schemes and had housing properties.”

He said the final beneficiaries for the 2bhks were selected after cross-checking 360 degrees with the available data.

“We sanctioned the 2BHK to the genuine and eligible candidates who are desperate for a home and that too after conducting house-to-house surveys three times. We urge the people not to believe in rumours being spread and not approach middlemen and avoid giving money to get 2BHK units. Only genuine applicants will get 2BHKs.”
