Hyderabad High Court acting Chief Justice lauds woman power in judiciary
He was addressing advocates, judicial officers and staff of the High Court on 68th Republic Day celebrations.
Hyderabad: Acting Chief Justice of the Hyderabad High Court, Justice Ramesh Ranganathan, on Thursday said that voiceless millions of our country look up to the judicial branch of the state for redressal of their grievances.
He was addressing advocates, judicial officers and staff on the premises of the High Court after hoisting the National Flag as part of the 68th Republic Day celebrations.
The ACJ said, “While the increase in the number of women judges in different cadres is a matter of immense satisfaction what needs to be addressed is the lack of enthusiasm in women joining the Bar in large numbers.”
He said “It is a matter of great pride that we now have three women judges in the High Court which, I am told, is the highest ever since the High Court was established. In addition, 12 of the 25 principal district judges in both states are women. Also, as on date 23 per cent of district judges, 28 per cent of the senior civil judges and 47 per cent of junior civil judges are women.”
The ACJ also requested senior advocates to extend support to the poor to get access to justice by taking up more cases pro-bono.
