Chennai: Woman run over by bus, dies

Chennai: A 45-year-old woman died after coming under the wheels of a private bus in Kancheepuram on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Savitri, 45 , a resident of CMC Thoppu in Pillayarpalayam. According to police, Savithri was riding pillion with her husband Sudhakar, 50, on Tuesday afternoon,  when the accident happened. Sources said Savithri’s daughter was admitted to the labour ward of the Chengalpattu government hospital.

On Tuesday afternoon Savitri and Sudhakar had gone to their house to bring her lunch. At around 12.30 pm when they were near the New bus stand on GST Road,  a private bus coming out of the bus terminus rammed into the two-wheeler

He lost control and the bike skidded.  Sudhakar and Savitri fell on the road and latter came under the rear wheel of the bus and died on the spot. Sudhakar escaped with minor injuries.

The angered passersby  pelted stone at the bus and detained the vehicle. The bus driver fled the spot. Savitri’s body was shifted to the Chengalpattu Government Hospital for postmortem. Chengalpattu police registered a case and further probe is on to nab the bus driver.
