Chennai: An AIADMK man who allegedly smashed a car's windshield in an inebriated condition was handed over to Taramani police, but policemen let him off on Saturday evening without registering a case after learning about his political affiliation.
The ruling party man, was causing ruckus on Pillaiyar Koil street at Kanagam. He was caught by residents and given a sound thrashing before being handed over to police. Policemen chided the crowd for thrashing him and refused to arrest him. They persuaded the crowd to disperse. The police reasoned that the man suffered injuries and required medical attention.
Meanwhile, Lakshmanan, a techie working in Bengaluru, who left his car in front of his relative's house, in the afternoon, learnt about the incident after he came out of the house in the evening. When he went to lodge a complaint, the cops instead of booking the man who caused ruckus threatened to book the techie for obstructing the pathway by parking the car. Scared, Lakshmanan retreated without pressing his charges and drove back with the damaged windshield.
