Nellore: Leaders of YSR Congress came down heavily on Nellore Municipal Corporation for turning a blind eye to the pigs menace in Nellore City.
Referring to attacks on children by pigs in Janardhanreddy Colony and Venkateswarapuram among others places in the past, Nellore City legislator Dr P. Anilkumar Yadav demanded an explanation from the civic body for not implementing its decision to shift pig rearers on the outskirts of the town from the city.

Speaking to media persons here on Monday, he underlined the need to move the pigs and their owners out of the city to prevent the outbreak of the dreaded Japanese encephalitis (JE). He advised the municipal health wing to create awareness among people to protect them from the spread of diseases through pigs. Maintaing that there are more than 20,000 pigs in the city, he said they will launch an agitation and collect one lakh signatures from public to bring pressure on the corporation to act on the issue. Dr Anilkumar has suspected the role of some politicians behind allowing pig rearers to remain in the city limits.
