Hyderabad: Union home minister Amit Shah's remarks that the BRS government had failed to remember those who fought and sacrificed lives to liberate Hyderabad from the "brutal Nizam rule," as well as for failing to observe September 17 as Liberation Day, incensed BRS working president and minister K.T.Rama Rao, who alleged that Shah was misrepresenting facts.

Shah, who inaugurated a martyrs’ memorial in Gorata in Karnataka's Bidar, where 200 people were massacred by the Razakar militia in 1948, stated that after the BJP is re-elected in Karnataka and the grand memorial is built, the party will celebrate the next Hyderabad Liberation Day at Gorata.

On Monday, Rama Rao took to Twitter to express his disdain over Shah's remarks, writing, "Union Home Minister Amit Shah Ji, 17th September has been celebrated by Telangana Govt officially as National integration day since Hyderabad state was integrated into Indian union on the same day in 1948. Your blatant misrepresentation is indeed unbecoming of the stature of a Union Home Minister (sic).”

In a series of tweets, Rama Rao continued his attack on Shah, stating, "To those who ask why can't we call it Liberation Day; Why do we celebrate 15th August as Independence Day and not as Liberation Day? What should matter is respectful commemoration of the sacrifices and struggles against oppressors; be it the British or Nizam."

In another tweet, Rama Rao came down heavily on BJP leaders for sharing stage with rape convicts in Bilkis Bano case. He termed the BJP as "Balatkaar Justification Party". Balatkaar Justification Party and it's Brazen embrace of these rapists is a true reflection of their mindset."  "Stop being a prisoner of the past. Become the Architect of your Future,” Rama Rao advised Shah.
