Hyderabad: In a bid to protect water bodies like tanks, ponds and nalas in IT corridor, the GHMC is working with the irrigation department and installing fencing and compound walls them.

The GHMC, which has announced a plan to beautify urban water bodies, has requested the irrigation department to take up beautification works at 24 of the 185 tanks under the government’s Mission Kakatiya programme.

In phase-I, the irrigation department is concentrating on four water bodies in the IT corridor, including Devuni Kunta in Nanakramguda, Komatikunta in Gopanpally, Pedda Cheruvu in Lingampally and Malkam Cheruvu in Raidurgam.

The teams, comprising staff from GHMC, revenue and irrigation departments, have been carrying out surveys at these lakes since a week and have fixed the boundaries of the tanks based on the Full Tank Level (FTL) records available with the irrigation department.

GHMC commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy told DC that the decision was taken during a recent review meeting chaired by irrigation and municipal ministers.
