Hyderabad body plans survey on talaq
The framing of the questionnaire has been completed, and it contains a total of 50 questions.
Hyderabad: The Centre for Development and Research Policy (CDRP) is conducting a survey on the triple talaq issue, under the guidance of Abu Saleh Shariff, the member-secretary of the Sachar Committee.
The framing of the questionnaire has been completed, and it contains a total of 50 questions.“We will collect responses from 18,000 respondents. The survey will also be available online. It is for both men and women. Members are going to each and every house and asking people for their knowledge and opinion about talaq,” said survey in-charge Md Liaqat Ali.
He added, “In most cases, we find that people don’t have proper knowledge of Islam, and they are not aware of women’s rights. Islam has given equal rights to both men and women. However, women are deprived of their rights, and the issue of talaq is being misused. Oral talaq delivered thrice in one sitting is not accepted, and the saddest part is that men don’t know about it, because they haven’t received proper Islamic education.”
The questionnaire seeks to know if respondents were willing to abide by the conditions put before them at the time of nikah. It also asks if respondents are willing to opt for a model, standardised nikah nama, which prevents men from pronouncing triple talaq orally in one sitting and forbids bigamy for men.The survey highlights examples of elderly couples, and how they tackled their marital problems. It also seeks to know if any arbitration has been done by anybody.
