Hyderabad: Inadequate supply of water continues to haunt the residents of the Old City despite the public representatives and water board officials assuring to prompt action.

Areas in the Falaknuma such as Ghazi Millat Colony, Risala, Jangammet, Falaknuma, Quadri Chaman, Rajanna Bowli and Ghulam Murtuza Chawni are receiving a short supply of drinking water.

“Water is supplied on alternate days in the evening and for over a month the pressure is low. Moreover, the supply time has been cut down to an hour which was previously three hours every day,” complained Siraj Ahmed, a resident of G M Chawni.

“People are booking water tankers to tide away with the problems in the neighbourhoods. Never in the past had we witnessed such harsh times in the locality,” lamented Rajesh Kumar B, a resident of Jangammet.

P. Nagender Kumar, General Manager, O and M Division II Riyatsatnagar said that there is a problem of low pressure in the area hence the supply is affected. “An interdepartmental meeting was held on Wednesday and the issue will be resolved within next couple of days,” he assured.

However, the residents of Kamatipura, Chandulala Baradari, Do Pahad Dargah and Misrigunj are facing problems of supply of unclean water. “Dirty water is being supplied to the households for last six months. Several complaints were made to the officials in this regard,” complained a woman.

Another local resident, Mohd. Shakher pointed out that the drinking water supply lines in the area are damaged and the board despite assurances had not replaced it.

Md. Khader Mohiuddin, DGM (Engineering) Chandulala Baradari, said that the tenders for the pipeline laying works were called recently. “Works will commence soon after the tenders are finalised. To redress the problem we had taken up rectification works in areas where households were receiving polluted water,” the official said.
