Five-fold rise in Outer Ring Road traffic
In the first three months of the current year, 78,12,062 four-wheelers have taken the Outer Ring Road.
Hyderabad: The volume of vehicles plying on the 158-km Outer Ring Road has been increasing rapidly with each passing year. The most heavily used section has been identified as the stretch between Gachibowli and Shamshabad.
HMDA officials said that wide roads have attracted the attention of techies who use it to reach their destinations quickly.
The number of four-wheelers using the Outer Ring Road has gone up from 46.94 lakh in 2014 to 2.54 crore last year.
In the first three months of the current year, 78,12,062 four-wheelers have taken the Outer Ring Road.
Outer Ring Road chief general manager B.L.N. Reddy said that the reason for the road’s popularity was that it facilitates hassle-free and safe driving.
A total of 3.33 crore vehicles, including trucks and three-to seven-axle commercial vehicles used the ORR in 2018. Mr Reddy said that techies were the largest users of the Outer Ring Road.
Data from the tool plazas showed that the Gachibowli-Shamshabad stretch was the most used.
Mr Reddy said the number of vehicles would touch six crore by next year.
The number of ORR users has increased nearly five-fold from 67,53,944 vehicles in 2014. It rose to 1,32.52,855 in 2015, 1,98,50,579 vehicles in 2016, 2,53,14,105 vehicles in 2017 and 3,33,64,348 vehicles in 2018.
