Hyderabad: Advocate who exposed secret deals held for rape
Advocate Rao was arrested based on a complaint filed by the victim, a law student.
Hyderabad: Advocate Immaneni Rama Rao, who exposed the shell companies allegedly linked to the Congress working president A. Revanth Reddy, was arrested by the Chilkalguda police on Friday on grounds of rape, extortion, and criminal intimidation.
Advocate Rao was arrested based on a complaint filed by the victim, a law student. It may also be noted that a rowdy-sheet was opened against him under the same police station limits, and it was found that the accused has reportedly been involved in 16 criminal cases pertaining to land grabbing.
The victim, along with her classmates, first met the accused at the city civil court to discuss the possibility of an internship at a local court.
A few days later, the accused asked the victim to visit him at his residence in Venkatapuram Colony, Padma Rao Nagar, to discuss the internship, sans her classmates. When the victim visited his house on Sunday, the accused forced himself on her, made sexual advances, and threatened her of dire consequences if she complained against him. The victim had since then been living in fear.
Mr A. C. Balagangi Reddy, Inspector of Police, Chilkalguda, said, “The advocate called the victim over to his house once again on the following Thursday. When she visited him, he demanded a ransom from her and reportedly threatened to expose the sexual activity that took place at his residence if she failed to deliver. Later, even his wife Supraja abused her.”
Subsequently, the victim dialed 100 and soon after, the police arrived at the spot. The victim then filed a complaint at the Chilkalguda police station against advocate Rao. The Chilkalguda police registered a case and inspector A. C. Balagangi Reddy, along with his staff, apprehended him on Friday.
Based on the complaint filed by the victim, the Chilkalguda police have registered a case under sections 376, 385, 506, and 504 of the IPC. The accused has been remanded to judicial custody, and further investigation is underway.
