Form team to treat girl in coma: Court
The medical negligence of doctors of the Government Hospital in Arupukkottai had caused this condition.
Madurai: The Madurai Bench of Madras High Court on Thursday directed the Dean, Government Rajaji Hospital, Madurai to form a team of specialist doctors to treat an 8-year-old girl, who is in coma for the last 35 days in the hospital. The child's mother, Tamil Selvi, alleged that the medical negligence of doctors of the Government Hospital in Arupukkottai had caused this condition in her daughter Sangeetha.
Tamil Selvi from Ambedkar colony, Arupukkottai had admitted her daughter for a routine tonsil operation on April 13 at the GH in Arupukkottai. “Sangeetha was playing with me until doctors took her to the operation theatre around 10 am on April 16,” she told DC Around 2.30 pm, the anaesthetist Rohini and surgeon Annadurai informed her that Sangeetha had become unconscious and she needed to be taken for treatment to GRH Madurai immediately.
She said that when they inquired with the doctors they admitted that drugs given by the anaesthetist prior to the surgery led to encephalopathy.
“Anaesthetist Rohini did not provide the test injection before giving general anaesthesia to my daughter. Due to the fault of the anaesthetist, laryngeal spasm was created,” she said in the petition.
